What Should I Know About Anxiety?
There Are Many Causes Of Anxiety Disorders. Current research suggests that anxiety disorders result from a combination of genetic, environmental, psychological and developmental factors. Everyone feels anxious now and then. In fact, it is normal to get anxious in the face of dangerous and challenging situations. However, anxiety disorders are different from healthy, low-level anxiety and can severely disrupt a person’s life. People with an anxiety disorder may feel alone and hopeless, but with treatment can enjoy healthy and productive lives.
The following anxiety disorders have different symptoms – however, all their symptoms cluster around excessive irrational fear.
- Panic attacks
- Phobias
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)
If you are one of those people who suffer from panic attacks, obsessive thoughts, incessant worries or debilitating phobias, there is hope. You don’t have to live with anxiety and fear. I can help you understand and learn to better manage your anxiety through anxiety treatment.

I don’t feel like anxiety treatment will help me. I don’t believe anything can help me.
I understand the fears you have. Finding a therapist might seem pointless. You may not believe you can achieve a healthy life style. In general, anxiety disorders are treated with medication and psychotherapy. Treatment choices depend on the problem and the person’s preference. Those who have tried therapy in the past often think they have “failed” at treatment or that treatment did not help them when, in fact, it was not given for an adequate length of time. Sometimes people must try different treatments than those they might have tried before in order to find out which one works for them.
I’m afraid that seeking help for my anxiety will make me seem weak.
Anxiety is not something you can just get over. Persistent fear is a symptom of an anxiety disorder. But it should not be your reality! Seeking anxiety treatment does not make you weak. In fact, it takes a great deal of courage to take control of your life. As a highly trained therapist, I will design a anxiety treatment plan that is right for you. Together we will work toward diminishing your fears and making you stronger.
What Do I Do When I Am Ready To Get Help?
Admitting that you need help requires a lot of bravery. Seeking help in order to understand the cause of your anxiety is the first step that will lead you to the path of recovery. Individuals who seek treatment vary in treatment needs and goals. The best way to treat an anxiety disorder is to become informed about the various treatment options and find the ones that are right for you. It’s important for a therapist to determine the causes of your fears and anxiety. Some common types of anxiety therapies include cognitive, behavioral, cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, humanistic, psychodynamic or a combination of therapeutic approaches. Therapy can help individuals, couples, families or groups. There are many different styles of therapy, and I will work with my client to choose the type that best addresses his or her needs.
Seeking the right treatment will take time and commitment. It might feel overwhelming or frustratingly slow. This is normal. Recovery usually has its ups and downs. It will be important to be open to change and a little experimentation.
Don’t rely on medications alone. Although medication can relieve the symptoms of anxiety, they will not cure anxiety disorders. Medication can be combined with psychotherapy for specific anxiety disorders and this may be the best treatment approach for some people. Be aware that some medications are effective only if clients take them regularly. Ceasing medication might cause symptoms to reoccur.
Get social support. The more you develop your social connections, the more protected you are from the depression that can often result from fear and anxiety. If you are feeling stuck, don’t hesitate to talk to trusted family members or friends or seek out new connections from a depression or anxiety support group. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness and it won’t mean you’re a burden to others. Often, the simple act of talking to someone face-to-face can be an enormous help.
If you are ready to find relief from your anxiety and reclaim your life as your own, I am ready to help.
